Poutine and Cupcakes

Together at last!

On Sunday, Montréal hosted its first Cupcake Camp, a fundraiser for Kids’ Help Phone. Though the Cupcake Camp concept originated in San Francisco, several Montréal bakers put a decidedly Québécois spin on their creations:

Clever Cupcakes submitted the winning entry in the “Best Montreal Theme” category. Yes, that’s Youppi emerging from a poutine. On a cupcake. My mind is blown.

Poutine Pizza

Have you ever been trashed and hungry, and then found yourself having a major crisis because you can’t decide if you’d rather have pizza or poutine? Well, worry no longer!


This is poutine pizza, from Montréal’s Bella Donna. It’s exactly what you think: fries, cheese, and poutine sauce lovingly slathered on pizza dough by a dude named Hussein.

The Matty Poutine

From katbert’s Flickr, here’s a poutine from Resto La Banquise in Montréal.


My best guess says this is the Matty Poutine, with bacon, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. I feel very conflicted looking at this one. Like, bacon makes things amazing. But green peppers make things shitty. So. CONFLICTED.

Daryl’s Montréal Poutine Adventure

I’ve always been curious what people from outside of North America make of our culture’s penchant for all things greasy and cheesy. Last year Daryl from Singapore visited Montréal where he tried his first poutine at the tiny Patati Patata on St-Laurent. He confesses to usually not liking cheese very much, but here’s his video review.
